  46.    Professional Power Cadd was originally developed to fill a need that 
  47.    was unfulfillable by any other program.  As is common today, a 
  48.    majority of Cadd programs are slow, clumsy and complicated.  As the 
  49.    years have gone by and customer demands have increased, the 
  50.    traditional packages have added on to the existing program's 
  51.    foundation making their packages top heavy, bulky and loosely 
  52.    footed.

  61.    In 1985, when no commercial Cadd program with the power and 
  62.    versatility that a successful business required was available, the 
  63.    author of Professional Power Cadd set out to fill that need for his 
  64.    own operations.
  65.  
  66.    His primary goal was the development of a Cadd package that was 
  67.    above all else, simple to use.
  68.  
  69.    ProCadd requires NO SCHOOLING whatsoever.
  70.  
  71.    Within a few short minutes, the novice user can begin to draw basic
  72.    elements which would take days or weeks to achieve on other 
  73.    programs.
  74.  
  75.    ProCadd's registered version 7.0.0 is compatible with most graphics 
  76.    programs including Corel Draw 3.0.  Corel can directly import 
  77.    ProCadd drawings and manipulate them to wrap, stretch, graphically 
  78.    accentuate or add 3D.

  80.    Version 7.0.0 includes the Corel Draw 3.0 interface.

  82.    ProCadd is currently used in construction, manufacturing, 
  83.    engineering, design and development in fields including residential, 
  84.    commercial, electronics, electro-mechanical, marine and aerospace.

  91.    ProCadd and walk you through a brief overview of samples prepared to 
  92.    give the new user an idea of the power of ProCadd.

  100.    As a result of installing ProCadd, you,ve been given a number of 
  101.    files including the program, drawing files, symbol files, session 
  102.    files, help files, plotter drivers, fonts and various documents as 
  103.    described below.

  129.    ProCadd's installation routine will also create directories as 
  130.    required as well as install and prepare all files necessary.

  187.    While installing ProCadd, you were asked to choose whether to allow 
  188.    the installation routine to create a C:\CAD650 directory for your 
  189.    program files or to specify an alternate location.
  190.  
  191.    Assuming that the default was acceptable, you can go to your hard 
  192.    disk drive C by typing from the DOS prompt, "C:" and "enter".  This 
  193.    will take you to, if you're  not already there, the C drive.
  194.  
  195.    Go to the \CAD650 directory by typing "cd" for change directory and 
  196.    without any spaces "\CAD650" and the "enter".
  197.  
  198.    To confirm your present location, type "cd" and "enter".  Your 
  199.    current location will display at the prompt.  This should be 
  200.    C:\CAD650>.

  202.    To begin the program, type "procad" and "enter".
  203.  
  204.    The program will start and the active drawing will load as a sample.
  205.  
  206.    Note that if there is not a mouse driver present, the program will 
  207.    not start.

  216.    In your \CAD650\drawings directory we have installed a set of sample
  217.    drawings to give you an idea of some of ProCadd's capabilities.

  229.    The first one that you see after installation and execution is a
  230.    cross section of a sensor valve.
  231.  
  232.    Feel free to play with it as you wish.
  233.  
  234.    If you should exit ProCadd without saving the drawing it will be
  235.    automatically stored as the "active file" and it will appear upon
  236.    re-entering the program.
  237.  
  238.    This sensor drawing is saved in your \drawings sub-directory with 
  239.    the name "sampsen.dwg".
  240.  
  241.    In order to see the sample drawing as it actually is and likewise 
  242.    would plot, the text must be displayed in real form.  At any time 
  243.    you can go to the text menu by clicking on "TEXT" from the main 
  244.    menu.  Click on "FAST TEXT".  This will reload the drawing with the 
  245.    text reappearing in a real scaled and styled text mode.  This mode 
  246.    is handy in visualizing the actual text as stored.  This is called 
  247.    "REAL TEXT" mode.   This mode taxes the computer's resources, 
  248.    however, so normally you might prefer to operate in the "FAST TEXT" 
  249.    mode.

  251.    To get back to the main menu click on the sub menu title at the top 
  252.    of the menu section or press escape.
  253.  
  254.    Now let's take a look at another sample drawing.
  255.  
  256.    Go to the "DWG FILES" menu by clicking on this menu item.
  257.  
  258.    Click on "GET DRAWING".
  259.  
  260.    A selection of the contents of your  \DRAWINGS directory will 
  261.    appear.
  262.  
  263.    Select "samphous.dwg" with your mouse and then click on "GET 
  264.    DRAWING" at the bottom of the screen.
  265.  
  266.    A sample drawing of a house plan will be retrieved and loaded for 
  267.    you.
  268.  
  269.    Notice that beneath the Drawing File menu items is what we call the 
  270.    Window View Locator.  This section tells you that the current view 
  271.    of the drawing is at 1/128 real size.  This is a magnification 
  272.    indicator.

  285.    Click on the number "4" at the top of the Locator.  Notice that the 
  286.    drawing reloads zoomed x4 ending up at 1/32 size.  Similarly 
  287.    clicking on 1/4 will return it to 1/128.

  289.    Next click on the edge of the Window View Locator's rectangle 
  290.    outline.  This will take you directly to the "WINDOW" function menu.  
  291.    With your mouse zoom in x4 again  so that you can see some specifics 
  292.    of the drawing.  Click on a point of the drawing and notice how the 
  293.    drawing reloads with that point as the new center of the screen.  If 
  294.    you click repeatedly at one side of the drawing, it will continually 
  295.    redraw moving each time to that side.  This is called "Panning".
  296.  
  297.    Notice that the rectangle within the rectangle of the Window View 
  298.    Locator moves with each pan.  The smaller rectangle represents the 
  299.    view within the larger drawing represented by the outside of the 
  300.    Locator.

  302.    The next sample drawing is an electrical connection and layout 
  303.    schematic that will give you an idea of the versatility of 
  304.    ProCadd.
  305.  
  306.    From the Drawing Files function menu item select get "GET DRAWING" 
  307.    and pick the drawing file "sampelec.dwg" from your drawings 
  308.    directory.
  309.  
  310.    Notice that ProCadd has been used to create a graphic representation 
  311.    and schematic, depicting an appropriate connection scheme to be used 
  312.    as a assembly drawing.
  313.  
  314.    Next let's take a look at some samples of text available the ProCadd 
  315.    user. 
  316.  
  317.    Use the same "GET DRAWING" sub function within the "DWG FILES" sub 
  318.    set and load the "samptxt.dwg" sample file.
  319.  
  320.    Assuming that you are still in Fast Text mode, the text will appear 
  321.    with the half rectangle outlines indicating an outline of their Real 
  322.    Text size.
  323.  
  324.    Return to the "TEXT" function menu and toggle to "REAL TEXT" for an 
  325.    accurate visualization.  While in the text mode you can move or edit 
  326.    any of the text by selecting that text with your mouse and then 
  327.    using standard text editing methods to change letters or the 
  328.    variable parameters in the menu section to change the size or style.
  329.  
  330.    To move text click on the "MOVE TEXT" menu item and drag the string 
  331.    to any position you like.

  341.    It is important that you press enter whenever you've finished 
  342.    editing, to indicate that you're done.
  343.  
  344.    Also, when editing, the Fast Text mode makes it much easier.
  345.  
  346.    After you've finished practicing with text editing, go back to the 
  347.    Drawing Files menu and load a file named "sampfil.dwg".
  348.  
  349.    Here is a sample of various filling, shading and sectioning that can 
  350.    be done in the "SECTION" function menu set.
  351.  
  352.    Next load a file named "samplay.dwg". 
  353.    
  354.    We've given you this drawing as a demonstration of layers.  Layers 
  355.    are groups of elements that may be drawn within a drawing and used 
  356.    as overlays to be added or removed.  Different component types might 
  357.    be drawn on different layers.
  358.  
  359.    Once this sample is loaded, go to the "WINDOW" function menu.
  360.  
  361.    The different colored bars in the sample are on layers two through 
  362.    six. 
  363.  
  364.    At the  attributes menu click on "Layer 2" and it will toggle off. 
  365.    Click on "RELOAD" or press "CTRL-R" and notice that the top yellow 
  366.    bar disappears.  Toggle Layer 2 on again and Reload and it comes 
  367.    back.

  369.    You can do likewise with other layers three through six. 
  370.  
  371.    If the layer status of an element is unknown, you can go to the 
  372.    "ATTRIBUTES" function menu and point out the element in question.  
  373.    The descriptive parameters will alter to indicate the Attributes of 
  374.    the object element.

  376.    To begin drawing one of your own, go to the Drawing Files menu and 
  377.    select "New Drawing".  Once selected you will have the option of 
  378.    toggling between "US UNITS" and "METRIC UNITS" as a standard for 
  379.    your drawing.

  381.    Click on Drawing Files header on the menu to return to the main menu 
  382.    and select a drawing function such as Line.  Instead of returning to 
  383.    the main menu you could have simply pressed "F1" for Line to take 
  384.    you directly there.  Here you can practice drawing lines using 
  385.    different formats to define them.
